Bellamy's "Apology" is the autobiographical story of the Irish actress (best known for her performances of Shakespeare's Juliet), her life and her time on stage. Described as "the life of a woman, who was beautiful and well educated; who has distinguished herself as a capital Actress; and whose adventures have been various and singular" (review from vol. VI, p. 171) her book was well received and had four editions printed within a year of its publication. Issued as five volumes, this set includes a sixth volume, which was published separately and includes within it a dedication, letters, and reviews of Bellamy's work.
