"Lucubrations" by Isaac Bickerstaff (nom de plume of Jonathan Swift) was originally published in The Tatler, an influential periodical issued thrice-weekly from 1709-1711 by Richard Steele and Joseph Addison. Swift used the Tatler and his pen name as part of a hoax poking fun at the astrologer John Partridge.
